A key to protecting biodiversity is to maintain connections
between important habitats. The Eastern Westchester Biotic Corridor
study, released in 2002, identifies Route 35 in Lewisboro, just north
of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, as a place where connections might
be severed if land isn't protected.
Which is why we were pleased to accept a conservation easement on 26 acres on the north side of Route 35, in South Salem . The owner, Robert Walker, first approached the Land Trust about accepting the tract as a gift. In collaboration with the Town of Lewisboro , it was decided that the Town should own the land with WLT holding a conservation easement.

The Walker property is now part of an impressive array of parks and nature preserves owned by the Town. Its wetlands and post-agricultural lands - an important link in the connectivity of the EWBC - will remain protected forever.
