Westchester Land Trust is in bed with the oil companies.
Actually, that’s a slight exaggeration. We’re working with one heating oil delivery company to spread the word about land preservation and to try to increase our base of support.
Robison Oil is offering its customers the chance to donate a penny for each gallon of heating oil that customer uses this heating season to Westchester Land Trust. We think it will add up to a modest $10 per customer, but with some luck a lot of customers will sign up, broadening the support for land preservation in terms of people and of dollars.
But wait. I know you’re starting to feel outraged. You’re thinking that Westchester Land Trust wants to benefit from people using more fossil fuels.
No! We don’t! We encourage conservation. Turn down your thermostats, put on a sweater. Consider investing in solar or geothermal for your home. Or get a home energy audit.
Robison is a New York State-certified home performance specialist and will offer a discounted home energy use audit for those that participate in the penny per gallon program. A certified home energy assessment is the first step to take to reduce your energy use by as much as 30 percent.
But if you use heating oil, you can at least add an extra penny per gallon to your bill and be happy that the money will go to a good cause – land preservation. When a Robison customer agrees to have one cent per gallon used donated to the land trust, we are notified of who that customer is. After the heating season, we can calculate the amount of money donated and the customer is acknowledged and receives the tax benefits based on the amount donated to the land trust.
