Rye Nursery

Preservation opportunities abound throughout Westchester. In November 2001, the City of Rye made the most of one by acquiring the seven-acre Rye Nursery property. The land includes a significant amount of wetlands, and is important as open space and wildlife habitat, and for flood control.

Westchester Land Trust worked with Mayor Steven Otis on negotiations for the purchase. Otis said that WLT was "crucial to the success of the deal." He also thanked the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, which provided the loan for the purchase.
