Protecting Your Land
As the core of Westchester Land Trust’s preservation work, conservation easements have tremendous benefits for the environment, for the community and for the landowners who donate them.
Landowners such as Peter and Daun Hauspurg, above, have the satisfaction of knowing that the easement they donated helps keep Westchester green and also qualifies them to take advantage of generous income tax deductions offered by the IRS.
In fact, Beth Kaufman Shapiro, a tax attorney and a former Treasury Department official who has drafted tax regulations, said:
“Conservation easements give more advantageous tax benefits than any other kind of charitable gift.”
Westchester Land Trust has completed more than 170 conservation easements, protecting almost 4,300 acres, in 20 communities and in parcels ranging from 700 acres to less than one acre.
