We are pleased to announce that Kara H. Whelan is the new Director of Conservation Programs. Kara is leading outreach efforts to secure conservation easements and acquisitions and is leading conservation programming for the general public, conservation groups and municipalities to increase the organization’s constituency and educational impact.
Kara will help lead and be an integral part of the creation of a new communications platform that will support WLT’s fundraising, outreach and programming.Previously, Kara served as the Director of Membership & Outreach at the Greenwich Land Trust for eight years and oversaw fundraising, communications and community outreach programs. Kara has worked in conservation outreach for a number of organizations including the United States Environmental Protection Agency, City Parks Foundation, and the Trustees of Reservations. Her research on Working Forest Conservation Easements was featured in the Land Trust Alliance’s journal, The Exchange. Kara has a MS in Natural Resource Policy from the University of Michigan and a BS in Environmental Geoscience and Education from Boston College. Kara lives in South Salem with her husband and two children.
