In addition, the wetlands on the property, into which the farmland drains, are
a part of the New York City Croton Reservoir watershed, and preserving farmland
in the watershed has been a major priority for New York City as a means of preserving the
reservoir's drinking water quality.
Finally, as you can see from the attached maps, the property is a part of a
very large corridor of undeveloped land, much of which is in institutional use
or is preserved by easements. This further conservation easement will add
further preserved land to this corridor and help protect a large wildlife
corridor to help preserve wildlife species, particularly reptiles and
amphibians that require larger areas of undisturbed land.
