Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt using a dedicated Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation device, or a GPS-enabled device such as a smart phone, iPad, or camera. To participate, you can hide a treasure and/or be the hunter! First, a waterproof container, or "cache," is hidden; a cache includes a logbook and simple treasures, or "swag." Next, directions to the hiding place are posted on a geocaching website. Geocachers then follow three simple rules: 1) if you take something, leave behind something of equal or greater value; 2) write your find in the logbook that stays within the container; and 3) post your find and comments online.  And, of course, don't forget to put the container back in its hiding place!

There are nine geocaches on WLT-owned preserves including Westchester Wilderness Walk, Hemlock Brook, Guard Hill, and the Frederick P. Rose and Rock Shelter Preserves.
