Vi Patek, leader of the Lewisboro Land Trust Walking Group, has enlisted Westchester Land Trust's Damon Oscarson to lead a walk of the Leon Levy Preserve on Friday, April 3, at 1 p.m.Damon, who is finishing his master's thesis on vernal pools, will introduce walkers to the variety of life that can be found in vernal pools at this time of year. Here's what Vi had to say in an email:
"At this time of year, even though it is still cold, all sorts of creatures come to life in vernal pools which are often ephemeral and dry up later in the spring. The last time Damon led a vernal pool walk in Leon Levy there wre frogs hopping all over the forest floor! He will show us the living creatures in the pools and explain their life cycles. The weather forecast is for possible showers but we will go anyway because frogs and salamanders like damp weather - so bring waterproof gear.
"This will be on Friday, April 3 at 1 p.m. at the Leon Levy Preserve (last driveway on Route 35 just before the traffic light at Route 123, opposite Le Chateau Restaurant).
