Pound Ridge Open House

The Pound Ridge Land Conservancy, with whom we have worked closely over the past six or seven years, is having an open house on Sunday, June 8, from 2 to 4 p.m., to mark the opening of its new house, at the Armstrong Preserve on Route 121, just north of the Cross River Reservoir causeway.

Here's what Elyse Arnow, president of the PRLC and a Westchester Land Trust Advisory Board member, wrote about the new house:

For those new to the project- the Armstrong House, once it is renovated, will provide housing to a land steward to bring professional land stewardship to complement the existing volunteer efforts of the organization and provide land stewardship expertise for all preserved lands in Pound Ridge and the surrounding communities.

In addition, the Armstrong house is to be an educational, private facility prototyping a ‘green' living lifestyle to promote the recognition that land preservation, natural resources and habitat conservation are possible through a combination of outright land protection and lifestyle choices. Initially, alternative, basic technologies will be showcased in light of the limited build-out budget, however, it is anticipated, through time, that more sophisticated and sustainable technologies and components can be showcased.

Lastly, it is the mission of the Armstrong House to demonstrate how an existing, historic structure can be preserved while introducing a successful program of alternative technologies to preserve the ‘historic viewshed' of the property. Minimizing human footprint impacts can be vital to protecting the integrity of the surrounding open space.

The house sits on the 50-acre Armstrong Preserve, which the PRLC owns and which Westchester Land Trust holds a conservation easement on.
