Sterling Forest, the 15,000-acre state park across the river in Orange and Rockland counties, turns 10 years old this fall, and a celebration is planned for Sunday. The area came this close to being turned into a huge housing development, until a coalition of preservations managed to put together a deal to save it. Our own Sam Pryor, chairman emeritus of Westchester Land Trust, played a significant role in persuading federal officials to contribute funding. The Journal News has a story about the Sunday celebration, here.
